Dr Tony O'Neill Under 19 Championship – Southern Division
Athlone Town 2 - 3 Limerick FC

Limerick Scorers: Colin Daly, Cian Collins, Barry Sheedy

Sunday 1st April 2012

As the League entered the final series of games Cobh Ramblers had the winning of the title in their own hands. In spite of Limerick FC winning 2-3 at Athlone, the Ramblers must be congratulated on a 4-1 win over Tralee Dynamos to be crowned Under 19 Southern Division Champions.

The first half, the game was evenly contested with few clear cut chances until a lapse in concentration by the Limerick defence left Sean Garvey in for an easy goal.

On thirty five minutes Barry Sheedy played Cian Collins in, his shot was blocked by keeper Cathal Tigue and rebounded to Colin Daly who made no mistake to equalize.

Five minutes later Cian Collins turned the Athlone Town center half and rounded the keeper to put Limerick ahead.

Athlone Town had luck on their side at the start of the second half when a ball bounced up off the hard surface to strike Vincent Noonan on the arm and the referee awarded a penalty. Darragh Edan hit the ball low to Stephen Walsh's right. The keeper got a hand to it but failed to keep it out.

Limerick FC knew they had to win this game and pushed on. Andrew Cowpar headed just over from a corner. The pressure told after thirty minutes when a quick free by Daly found Sheedy. His strength took him past a defender and he drilled an excellent shot past the keeper.

Limerick's endeavors ensured they finished runners up in this division and will be determined to go one better next season.
